ABOUT US

Haiti is among the poorest countries in the world and is the number one poorest in the western hemisphere.  Life expectancy is 62 years and 1 of every 13 children dies before age 5. Many people do not eat every day.  La Gonave is among Haiti’s poorest regions. There is virtually no electricity or paved roads.  A sparse distribution of rural clinics and one 44 bed hospital serve over 110,000 island inhabitants.

In the recent past, the 1000 students attending St. Bernadette’s School on the island of LaGonave, Haiti received three meals per week.  These meals, prepared by the staff of St. Bernadette's School, were often the only good source of nutrition these children would receive the entire week.  Currently, these children are receiving one meal per week when money is available.

Food prices have continued to skyrocket in a country challenged by the import of highly subsidized food products that undercut domestic food production. Therefore there is a high reliance on food imported from the US and other countries. This costs money. A lot of money.  We are in serious danger of not being able to sustain a school meal program. An ongoing monthly commitment to fund these meals is desperately needed.

Food for Thought is a program established by Partners With Haiti, Inc., a non-profit tax exempt corporation 501(c)3 organized under the laws of Florida and authorized to transact business in Virginia, subject to all Virginia laws applicable to the corporation. With your help, the Food for Thought program has been established to help feed the children of Haiti by providing three meals per week for 1000 students in Haiti.  For less than $42.00 a month you can feed 1000 children for a day.
